Venmo is great. Until it's not.

Splitting at the table is easy. It's the "$127 you owe me from March" nobody wants to bring up three months later.

The running tab nobody tracks

The average 20-something loses $370/year to unpaid IOUs. Three months of dinners, groceries, utilities — the math is nowhere. You both know something's off — but nobody wants to do it.

Venmo solves payment, not math

Splitting at the table? Easy. But Venmo doesn't track who's ahead over time. You settle one dinner and forget to settle everything else.

Nobody wants to bring it up

"Hey, you still owe me from March." Sounds simple. Feels weird. 43% of Gen Zers have lost a friend over money ambiguity. So it slides. And slides. Until you've got a $400 balance and everyone's pretending.

Just chat it. No forms. No math.

bean keeps the running balance — so you split anything, any time, without the spreadsheet or the awkwardness.

Tracks the running tab, silently

Add expenses as they happen. bean keeps the running balance between you and each person — no forms, no math, no awkwardness.

Our story

We got sick of the "you still owe me from March" conversation

My roommate Mike and I split everything — rent, groceries, utilities, the occasional concert ticket. But every time it came time to settle up, we'd both pretend it wasn't happening.

Not because we didn't care. Because asking felt worse than just letting it go. We'd Venmo each other and immediately feel weird about it. "Was that too much? Too little? Did I already pay you back for the electric bill?"

So we built something that does it for us. No forms. No awkward notifications. Just a quick chat, and it figures out who owes what and suggests how to settle. Now we're making it available to anyone who's ever been in that exact situation.
